Concept

The concept of the filmfestival Les Nocturnes was born from French people's grudges about Sweden. Actually, long winter nights in an hostile decorum are parts of this processus and helped the festival to get its peculiar form. Instead of screening classical masterpieces, Les Nocturnes allows the audience to find out that Swedish Cinema is not only a gathering of cold, heavy, deep moving pictures...

Astrid Lindgren

Every afternoon, at 5 pm, when the darkness cloaks winter, young viewers are invited to (re)discover Astrid Lindgren's world.

Thriller

Swedish Cinema has changed since Sjöström, Stiller or Bergman. Those who may think intimacy and nature are the only themes in Swedish movies may be surprised by Les Nocturnes. This selection of 10 thrillers is almost exclusive in France. The audience might enjoy classic films like The Man From Majorca, by Bo Widerberg, some detective storys adaptations and some other recent features.

Vilgot Sjöman

Vilgot Sjöman was born on the 2nd December 1924 in Stockholm, Sweden. He was part of the Swedish New Wave during the 1960's and is one of the few "modern" directors influenced by Ingmar Bergman. In December 2004, Les Nocturnes celebrates his 80.
